N404 is out of arguably one of the stud’s best ET ewes (x N958) bred at Nerstane having high performing rams and ewes every time she has been joined.

N404 progeny are consistently deep, good doers, with good feet and legs and always weigh heavier than they look. Their wools are very well nourished, with a bold crimp and long staples.

N404 has been used successfully by some of the industry’s leading merino studs with his balance of figures being exceptional.

Progeny of this ram display consistently good size, high fleece weights combined with low microns, while having those good waterproof wools.

N43 was retained at Nerstane because of his bone, structure and wool cut.

This ram will be used extensively in the Poll stud  in ET, AI and naturally because of the reasons above while still having that white, gutsy wool that Nerstane is always chasing.

His outstanding wide stance and topline along with his wool coverage should lead to some pretty exciting progeny.

John, Jock, Michael Peden, Grantley Mullan, Peter Stockman, Hamish, Simon Bahr, and Alex Wilson after the judging at Dubbo

Jock, Hamish, and John with N73, Australian Ram of the Year 2017.

N73 is probably the biggest and most well balanced ram Nerstane has bred. He weighed 149 kg as an August shorn at Dubbo. His structure is outstanding, standing right up on all four feet, and having great bone. N73 has that presence, with a massive pure head and no blemishes, great staple length with enough thickness, and showing off a bright 66 count wool that will suit most fine to fine medium wool breeders in all states.

This ram was a standout from a lamb.

Nerstane sold N73 to long term Uruguayan clients La Magdalena Stud for $40,000 at Dubbo in August.

Progeny of this sire a big, upstanding correct sheep that are real free growers with good woolcut.

N231 – Champion Fine Medium March shorn Ram Australian Sheep and Wool Show 2014

Semen is available from Nerstane’s exciting sire in N231.

Nerstane has come to an arrangrment to sell N231 to Coryule Merino Stud, Skipton, Victoria, after the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2015. Coryule will take posession of the ram after Sydney. Nerstane will retain half semen rights in the ram and will continue to market semen.

This ram has an excellent pedigree being by Langdene’s top sire L4073 who was by N43 and out of an AI ewe by N222 also by N43. The Grand Dam (4060) was by N2 and was one of Nerstane’s most prolific ET donor ewes.

N231 has a beautiful sire’s head with a wide hornset and strong soft muzzle. 143 kg at just 2 years old (as a March shorn in Dubbo) exemplifies the exceptional bone and spring of rib of this ram. Probably the most pleasing thing about this sire is his balance. Structurally, everything about him is in proportion even with his great weight and size. Standing very well on all four feet he always has that “look at me” presence about him.

N231 was our leading ram in our winning Stonehaven Cup team and in our winning pair, He weighed 156 kg at Sydney, and cut over 15 kg of wool after being shorn with the blades.

A well nourished productive 66’s would be the best way to describe his wool which also has excellent staple length and thickness.

2 out of the 3 top priced $20,000 rams rams sold at Bendigo in 2018 were by N231,

N958 is a big, plain upstanding ram with a massive head having a heavy and wide hornset. This ram has a double cross of N43 on both sides of his pedigree which is why his structure and bone is so exceptional. N958 ticks all the boxes on figures as well being in the top 10% on 4 of the 5 SG indexes.

N958 is one of Nerstane’s most proven sires now with progeny being measured in multiple Central Test sites with some exceptional results. There have been many return semen clients using this sire which is always the best guide of all.

The structure that he throws is second to none here at Nerstane as they are nearly always big, proud, and stand perfectly on all four feet.

N170 behind (Feb 17)

Another very exciting sire prospect here with N170. This sire had beautiful white, fine wool all over him. He has exceptional staple length for his wool type which is a perfect 70’s crimp. This ram has the best belly wool that we think we have ever had on a ram of this age with nearly fleece wool to his toes. N170 will suit superfine and fine wool growers that are trying to add more woolcut.

He has great bone like his father. Very good on his feet with a wide hornset and strong wide muzzle that is also free of any blemishes.

N170 progeny here at Nerstane are showing that great doing ability and always look better than their peers. They are also structurally very good on their feet,

N191 is a terrific doing sheep with great bone and width in his back and barrel. He is thick on the skin while still having good staple length which is a rare trait.

N191’s “heartroom” makes him really stand out on the mat.

N191 won the Production Class at Dubbo (as a 2 yr old) weighing a massive 137 kg, with a 42.5 cm eye muscle area, and a fleece weight of 14.3 kg. (17.5 mic, 2.3 SD, 13.1 CV and 99.8% CF)

Now a highly proven sire that has now passed away but semen still available.

The tremendous size for his wool type together with his great neck extension and presence made N910 stand out as a potential sire very early.

He had that same back end as his mother who was extremely wide through the hindquarter. He was perfect on his feet while having a clean head and long soft muzzle.

N910 had over three generations of embryo transfer genetics on both sides of his pedigree. His sire, N10, has proven himself here at Nerstane and at two Sire Evaluation sites where he has been outstanding for tops to culls ratio, high fleece weights and low micron. His outstanding mother (N984) was probably the best show sheep Nerstane has bred.

Progeny have the same bone and structure while having a consistent fine crimping soft wool on them which is extremely pleasing for us.

There has been many repeat buyers of semen for N910 which is testament to what his progeny have done in other stud’s flocks.

This photo was taken of N290 in late December 2012 which makes him 4.5 years old. As you can see by the way he still stands that his conformation is outstanding. He has plenty of bone with good body length and width with that unmistakable N4636 back end. N290 has a magnificent sire’s head with a heavy, strong horn and has always had a soft, wide muzzle.

N290’s progeny results at Nerstane have been outstanding. He sired 12 sons in our on-property sale in 2012 and they averaged $2600 showing the consistency of type that he is throwing.

On the Sheep Genetics site he is in the top 10% on 4 out of the 5 indexes being very good for CFW (top 10%) and bodyweight.

N290’s best advertisement is the recently released results from the latest Tasmanian Sire Evaluation site where he has again performed outstandingly showing why he is one of our most dependable sires. Have a look at his tops to culls ratio.

N207 is the first Poll Ram we have been happy to sell semen from. We were wanting to see some progeny first and we are very pleased with these.

N207 is a very big cutting ram. He has to be one of the deepest and “good barrelled” sheep Nerstane has bred. Terrific constitution goes with this ram as he always looks “fat” even when coming out of the ewes!

The width through the muzzle and chest on this sire is exceptional.

This ram is probably the heaviest cutting sheep Nerstane has produced. N4636 has a very special skin type which carries heavy, true white, almost shiny wool all over his body.

As a 2 year old ram at Dubbo National show, he was regulation shorn in the production class and was the heaviest cutting, with the finest micron out of all the rams. He cut 16.1 kg of 18.7 micron wool!

At the 2008 Sydney Royal show a full sister to N4636, N984, was judged Best Junior Exhibit of the show. The next day she was given Grand Champion Fine Medium Wool Ewe and then was unanimously judged the Best Ewe of the entire show. This ewe was the mother of Nerstane’s 2011 NSW Ram of the Year, N910.

Nerstane has used this outstanding son of N43 extensively in ET, AI and naturally and had some very interesting progeny. He throws a very white crimpy wool (with that same nourished tip) that always seems to weigh heavy.

N4636 has been proven in the Western Australian and the Tasmanian Central Test sire evaluation sites as well as the sheep CRC’s Genomics program.

Some of N4636’s outstanding progeny include N318 who was judged Supreme Merino Exhibit at Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2011 and was sold for $26000, and N75 who was the top hogget sold at our on property ram sale in 2012 at $7000.

N4636 was the sire of Langdene stud’s $50,000 ram at Dubbo in 2017.

Unfortunately N43 has moved on but he has definitely left his mark here at Nerstane and right across the merino industry. This ram has performed outstandingly in many flocks across Australia and South America. N43 was a trait leader in every Central Test Sire Evaluation site that he was ever entered in.

Nerstane 43 as a sire is performing consistently in the show & sale rings. Langdene 4073 is the best example when he was judged Supreme Ram at Bendigo, then onto NSW ram at Dubbo, and then judged Australian Supreme Merino in 2009. This outstanding ram was a son N43 and weighed 144kg at only 17.0 micron.

A Nerstane two tooth ewe who was a daughter of N43 was judged Supreme Exhibit at The Sydney Royal Easter Show. This was the first time a junior sheep had won Supreme. Another daughter who was also a 2 tooth in 2008 was awarded best ewe of the show.

N412, a son of N43, was judged Champion Sale Ram at Armidale in 2005 and sold for $12000 to Borambil Merino Stud. Borambil continues to use N412 with their top priced sale ram selling for $7000 in 2012.

In 2009, N57, who was also a son of N43 sold to Uruguayan clients, Central Lanera for $14000 at Armidale. At the Dubbo National a full brother to N57, N59 topped the sale at $29000. The ram was purchased by a syndicate of 5 studs including Trefusis and Beaufront studs in Tasmania and Eilan Donan, Denholm Green, and Mount Widderin studs in Victoria.

Nerstane 142 is a very unique ram. His massive size and coverage carrying such a long staple of rich, deep crimping wool combined with the evenness and exceptional belly wool, convinced the 5 judges at Sydney to make their unanimous decision. His 18.6-micron test shows his true softness with a SD of only 2.8, CV of 15.0,with 0% fibres over 30mic.

N142 is stamping his progeny with size, while carrying finer than average, soft bright wools very similar to himself.

Unfortunately N142 has passed away and there is limited semen available.

Great bone with brilliant wool is the best way to describe Nerstane 10. Comments written in the lambing book by Nerstane overseer Shane Rule at birth were: “Huge lamb, great skin, good bone”.

N10 had a very strong head with a soft, pure muzzle that was also deep, wide and ‘sirey’. His wool tests at Dubbo as a 2 year old ram were 17.2 micron, 2.9 SD, 16.9 CV while having a bodyweight of 125kg. The width across his back from his tail to his poll is outstanding.

N10’s progeny at Nerstane and in the Tasmanian and New England Central Test sites have been outstanding for fleeceweight and micron and also high tops and low culls.

This ram was the sire of Nerstane’s 2011 NSW Ram of the year, N910
